A Present For Lauren

Well, i was inspired by carey mulligan's hair here so i tried it and after hours of blowdrying, backcombing, hairspray and a couple of tedious somersaults.....it turned out so perfectly!
aren't you amazed? i look so hot. exactly like her.

hahahahahhhhhhhhaaaaaaaa!
Ree-diculous

i was screwing around after a little outfit post i did and i twisted my hair up like this just to see the general idea of vertical hair and no bangs. the result turned out so silly that i sent this pic to lauren  just to make her laugh and she replied "you have to post this!" to which i said something to the effect of "i don't have the cajones for that"

BUT, since yesterday was Lauren's birthday and all...
Lauren, here it is, my present to you in the form of self-deprecation :)

i do plan on trying this hair style for real.

Scalloped Detailing

If there's one sweet detail I love about vintage clothing, its the scallop detail (well besides eyelet, ruffles and bows, of course :) . There's just something so feminine about it, I think.
Vintage Silk Cotton Dress by My Favorite Vintage
1950's Linen Dress by Daisy and Stella
Scalloped Edge Tan Day Dress by Becky Drolen

1940's Linen Day Dress by The Greedy Seagull

1950's Dainty Embroidered Eyelet Dress by Personal Pursuits
1960's Spring Green dress by Crafty Crow

1940's scalloped Velvet Dress by Yours Truly

from my limited research, scalloping started showing up in the 1940's, in patterns like those above
(from left one, two, three). I love looking at the old patterns with scallop details for sale on etsy, silently wishing to find dresses like those in real life. I really should just sew one!

And I can't help but be excited that scalloping is making a comeback in modern clothing too. Since this post is already getting long,  check back tomorrow or friday to see my modern day scalloped picks :)

what's your favorite detail of vintage clothing??

Polka Dots and Pencil Skirts

Yesterday was such a nice warm day and all i needed to keep warm was this sweet lightweight 1940's swing coat. Steve and I walk by this lovely church (founded in 1888) on many of our excursions and i've always wanted to take some pictures of it, so Steve indulged my wishes.  i hope you are all doing well!

no, i'm seriously not obsessed.

yes, i'm posting pictures of carey mulligan. again. :)

i very much want to do my hair like this. i know it probably looks easy, but i've tried approximately 29 times and i can't seem to get it to look like i'm not a crazy person!

Art That Resonates

The first Print that i found by Spread the Love was this one above. I loved the idea of expecting 2011 to be the best year of our lives. i mean, why couldn't it be? I hearted it and then just let it float around in my favorites. And then i saw this in a treasury!...
i love this thought too. and feel/hope that its true about our home.
i finally realized that i was falling in love with this shop and that i should just look through the whole darn thing.
other favorites:

Call me sentimental, but i resonate with these thoughts. and i think they would make great gifts to yourself, your loved one or wedding presents too!

There's No Substitute...

I love my dress form, Camille. Really, i do. but sometimes her lack of arms leads to a misrepresentation of a lovely capped sleeve. Sometimes there's just no substitute for a lovely woman's body. As i said Here, though i am working less, i want my work to be better. and one of the ways i want the shop to be better is to show you items on a human (especially those items that just really need one). It was fun to exercise my creative muscles a little bit and create a tiny bit of a set (stacked dirty lampshades, why not? :) and to try to style outfits.
my model, Sally, is a dream to work with, too!
you may have seen her here
I really hope you like this shoot and that with Sally's help i can help YOU make good decisions about what you might like to buy from my shop, and how it would truly look.

Simply

When the Tucker for Target line came out, most were drawn to the bold graphic prints. but for whatever reason, I could not resist this plain and simple silk navy ruffle dress.
I had been waiting for the perfect occasion to wear it, as steve and i have not had a proper date nite in ages. Since he has been traveling so much, the best date to him is a nite at home with a home-cooked meal (albeit SELF-cooked :). But Monday nite, we went to the Decemberists concert and i wanted to wear something a little bit sexy for my man. Judging by his face when he arrived home from work; mission accomplished :)

Lauren Withrow Photography

My best friend Aanna, Introduced me to these images by Lauren Withrow a 17-year-old (!!!!!) photographer based in Dallas, Tx. They have been lending lots of inspiration to me lately.

I love everything about these photos. the mood, the colors, the clothing. i cannot imagine producing work of this stature at age 17.
