Smooth Sailing

I love this time of year at Adelaide's Homesewn. I can post as many spring and summer dresses as I want with reckless abandon. I'm through with february, that silly slow sales month and now march is gone too, though i don't know where it went. I've posted a nautical update becuase as far as i'm concerned, its smooth sailing from here on out....:)

sorry, sold already :)

A Redesign

A customer contacted me about this dress, asking if we could do a bit of a redesign on it.
she had exact measurements for the length of the dress and the sleeves and I jumped at the chance to help her reach her vision and also get this lovley dress to a good home.

This is how the dress turned out:

I think she had a lovely idea for it, don't you? The fabric is just beautiful but now it really stands out.
I am so happy she asked me to do this because it pushed me to sew and to do a more creative project, which are things I can seldom seem to make time for left to my own willpower.
I also wanted to say that if YOU see something in the shop that you would like changed a bit, just contact me about it! I charge a small fee, but its very fair.

Traders we be, Q and me.

In the past few months, I have been lucky enough to get to know sweet Quincy of Q's Daydream. I really hope that I get to meet her in person someday (husband wants to go to a Neil Young concert this summer in Nashville, so maybe then?:)

When i asked her if she would like to do a little borrowing dress trade and record it on our blogs, she jumped at the idea. It was so fun to get to wear this lovely 1940's linen dress of hers, and to know she was enjoying mine, too. I hope we can do it again soon. You must go check out the dress I sent her, too. you can see it here . These dresses are just too lovely to keep to ourselves.

the brown cloche was my grandmother's hat. cream tights, target. brown platform sandals, thrifted. brown cardigan, borrowed from my best friend.

I Was a Naughty Girl

not that kind of naughty, jeez! what were you expecting a picture of? :)

You know you've indulged a bit with internet shopping when your sweet porch gnome almost dies due to a parcel avalanche.

don't worry though, some of it is for the shop.

Shop Update: Pretty as a Picnic

As the weather warms, i'm reminded that there are few things that I love more than picnics. And all of the items in this shop update make me want to romp, dance and picnic in the park...or on the beach :)

A Color Love Story

As much as i would love to do a post about my favorite designer fashion, I am not a very good student of current fashion and i can only be myself. What i do get all giddy about is COLOR. Maybe its silly but i don't get dressed by thinking about a runway line that i saw (although that's a perfectly wonderful way to get dressed) . No, I get excited by the colors that i see in real life and i want to wear them. this particular outfit was inspired by a beautiful mustard and grey owl that i saw in National Geographic
Dress- purchased from etsy by jforney000
sweater- forever 21
boots- thrifted.

and, since i am totally excited about all the great stuff on etsy... a few faves.
