THEN, i got really inspired by this post from Lauren at deargolden. She wore a 1940's crepe dress (which is what this one is) but she paired it with simple accessories, and looked so modern and fresh. so i took another stab at this outfit, instead just wearing simple flat sandals, and a slim belt. And i think i like the simple result much better. I also traipsed all over my house to find new backgrounds and new light. Lauren's a genius at taking these pieces that could look so outdated and instead of forming a costume (which is what i accidently did), she makes it look so "today." i'm still learning.
And my marvelous new necklace from jean jean vintage (you will be seeing this piece a LOT)
Sorry so many pictures of my mug to get through :) but hey, its really like 2 outfit posts in one.
This dress was rescued from that warehouse i've mentioned. I can't get enough of the ruffles, the color and the flattering way the dress was gored. in the 40's and 50's a woman's body was celebrated. sigh.
I really want to wear vintage in a way that makes people think, "oh, what a lovely dress." not, "yikes, what planet is she from?"
and...
didn't i tell you i'd wear some color?
this uber pale lavender is such a stretch from my blue and cream palette ;)
thanks ever so much for reading,
m
So cute! I must admit, I like the dress worn with the floral belt as well. Love the new pic locations. I still need to find some good spots for mine.

Oh! Almost forgot to mention, I LOVE your Jean Jean Vintage necklace!
ReplyDeleteum, first of all, that dress is vintage? it's amazing and so modern looking! and crepe, wow.
ReplyDeletei love the second outfit pics indeed, you look great. long live wearing vintage in a completely modern way (and thank you for the sweet, sweet mention). ♥
thank you! i like it both ways as well, just the second a bit better :)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful dress! And although I actually really like both ways you've styled it, the simple accessories makes the dress shine so much more.
ReplyDeletelove your second try! The first is cute, but I definitely like the second better. DearGolden is one of my favorites...I've taken some fashion cues from her as well :)
ReplyDeleteI think it's really wonderful how bloggers inspire one another! While you look adorable in both sets of photos, I agree that the simple accessories let the dress be the star. (And that pale lavender color is so pretty on you!)
ReplyDeleteThat dress is amazing and I love all of the photos!
ReplyDeleteWe all have a lot to learn from Lauren :) You look so darn pretty! And I'm tickled that you are wearing my necklace.
ReplyDeleteI love it both ways mostly because that dress is perfect for you!
ReplyDeletecrepe + that color + you = match made in heaven! so pretty.
ReplyDeleteEither way of styling that dress is quite adorable, but I do really love the simplicity with the little belt and those cute sandals. What a lovely, lovely dress!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Lauren--that dress is so NOW looking! I think it's the ruffles. Very pretty, and you really rock those pale colors. Smart and chic way to cover up the holes. You look gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI love vintage dresses that looks modern!! you're look smashing! :)
ReplyDeleteAdorable! I think it looks great both ways but I do love that super cute 1940s bow hat!
ReplyDeleteNot to be redundant, but I totally agree with Lauren and Karen and others - this dress is SOOO modern I can't believe it's vintage! What a find! I seriously thought you got it at Anthro or something. I love both looks so much, I can't decide. I think you should style it a few more ways and then I'll decide ... ;)
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree. You look super cute. Love your house too. :)
