This past year i have just fallen for sailor inspired fashion (and especially the dresses, of course)
There is something so romantic and adventurous about the image of life on the sea reflected in a navy jacket with brass buttons, a crisp white sailor collar and the classic nautical stripe. The Sailor uniform has been inspiring fashion trends for over 150 years and has influenced designers such as CoCo Chanel, John Galliano, Jean Paul Gaultier, Sonia Rykiel, Luella Bartley, Givenchy and Dior to name just a few.
From the famed sailor collar to bell bottoms, garments traditionally worn at sea have been adapted througout history to create new fashions, identities and statements. How incredible that a fashion idea that began as workwear and an essential for affluent victorian children has now permeated catwalks. below i have included some of my favorite sailor inspiration. as well as my favorite nautical etsy finds.
