Scalloped Detailing

If there's one sweet detail I love about vintage clothing, its the scallop detail (well besides eyelet, ruffles and bows, of course :) . There's just something so feminine about it, I think.
Vintage Silk Cotton Dress by My Favorite Vintage
1950's Linen Dress by Daisy and Stella
Scalloped Edge Tan Day Dress by Becky Drolen

1940's Linen Day Dress by The Greedy Seagull

1950's Dainty Embroidered Eyelet Dress by Personal Pursuits
1960's Spring Green dress by Crafty Crow

1940's scalloped Velvet Dress by Yours Truly

from my limited research, scalloping started showing up in the 1940's, in patterns like those above
(from left one, two, three). I love looking at the old patterns with scallop details for sale on etsy, silently wishing to find dresses like those in real life. I really should just sew one!

And I can't help but be excited that scalloping is making a comeback in modern clothing too. Since this post is already getting long,  check back tomorrow or friday to see my modern day scalloped picks :)

what's your favorite detail of vintage clothing??

Daydreaming

Hi! if you've noticed my absence, it has not been voluntary. i have been in bed with influenza for a whole week. But yesterday (though tired) i made myself get up and get dressed. when i went to the closet the first thing i saw was this dress. Its a 1940's number i borrowed from Quincy of Q's Daydream. It seemed like the perfect thing to lift my spirits. Sometime soon you'll get to see the dress that i traded to Quincy styled by her, but in the meantime, you must check out her adorable shop and blog.

1940's black dress- Traded from quincy
Grey floral tights-target
grey suede bow belt- Darlingtonia
1950's-60's shoes- in the shop
please excuse my awesome variety of poses. clearly still tired :)
i hope you had a much better week than i did. and i can't wait to be listing in the shop again :)
thanks so much for reading,

A Christmas Party

Steve's work christmas party was this past Saturday. Despite the fact that most people wear jeans, i decided to fancy up. i got this dress from Astral Boutique on etsy. When i spotted it, i screamed and then i pushed the "add to cart" button so fast i almost knocked over my coffee. Its hard for me to date, but Sasha assumes it is from the 1940's based on the lot of clothing she bought it with. its so unique. i'm such a ruffle-fiend.

Steve just LOVED this dress and told me about five times, "This is my favorite dress, ever." He almost always likes what i wear but doesn't always tell me quite THAT much, so that was pretty special.

As a side note, may i say that i can totally see why Susan Powter ended up with her infamous haircut. every time I go to my stylist I find myself saying, "I'd like it shorter and blonder." will i soon end up like this??? :)

The party was fun; talks with steve's work friends that are slowly becoming my friends and really yummy cheesecake.
thanks for reading, and looking at way too many pictures of me,

Off the Wall--an outfit

Do you recognize this dress? i finally took it down from the wall of my studio and wore it!! (you can see it in the picture above). its a 1940's peach crepe dress with a most amazing details. i tried to iron it but was so nervous about hurting it that i didn't do a very good job (sorry about that).
I've been trying to finger curl my hair lately, but i accidentally did it before i got in my dress and when i slipped it on, they all came out. ahhh..maybe next time. Steve and i are having a tiny disagreement over whether or not i should grow out my hair. what do you think?
even though its a tiny bit too big, this is one i can never sell. its my perfect dress; i love the gathered shoulders and side panel.

Outfit details:
1940's peach crepe dress: found in an abandoned warehouse
lavender tights: anthropologie
1940's shoes: local antique store.
1950's fur collar cardigan: thrifted
little beaded purse: a gift
