A Color Love Story

As much as i would love to do a post about my favorite designer fashion, I am not a very good student of current fashion and i can only be myself. What i do get all giddy about is COLOR. Maybe its silly but i don't get dressed by thinking about a runway line that i saw (although that's a perfectly wonderful way to get dressed) . No, I get excited by the colors that i see in real life and i want to wear them. this particular outfit was inspired by a beautiful mustard and grey owl that i saw in National Geographic
Dress- purchased from etsy by jforney000
sweater- forever 21
boots- thrifted.

and, since i am totally excited about all the great stuff on etsy... a few faves.

A Weight Has Been Lifted

Nancy studied my face for 2 minutes holding her hands over my cheekbones, sizing up my facial structure in her mind. "well, you're kind of square through here, but, oh! you have a really nice jawline." we poured over collections of pixie cuts from mia farrow to mia wasikowska. we got a second opinion from vincint the stylist next to us. Finally at 3:30 (my appt. was at 3), i texted steve and said "I'm doing it!" It was so freeing to watch the locks fall to the floor and see these short wisps coming into form. And it was fun to see Nancy having so much fun. she has cut my hair for 3 years and known that i wanted to do this for awhile. she said, "I'm so excited i get to do this cut! no one in Kansas City ever wants it!"

I'm so glad that i did it. I like it and i don't feel like a boy like i'd feared, i actually feel more feminine somehow. I was such a nerd last nite. I tried on all my clothes and kept showing steve, "this is what it looks like with a sailor dress," "this is what it looks like with boots." etc. He was making fun of me by the end, screwing up his mouth to one side and saying, "oooh, it doesn't looks so good with a sweater dress, too bad those are your favorite" and then laughing. Well i could go on but i know this is not important in the grand scheme of things that actually matter. I just wanted to share :) oh, the final color will be blonder, but we didn't have time to do that yesterday.

The Chop

I have a Plan.

On my 30th birthday I am going to chop all my hair off.

But my looming 3pm haircut is making me want to deviate from the plan and get the darn pixie cut 4 YEARS ahead of schedule.
and i get that it probably won't look good. You have to be stunning to pull of these haircuts, and i'm rather goofy, with all sorts of unsymmetry about my face. but its something i just have to do anyway...you get that right?
But, I will more likely come home with more of the same :)

An Etsyversary

It's been one year since I embarked on this little venture called Adelaide's homesewn.

I can't believe all the wonderful people I've met through internetland; people that i now consider to be very good friends. I have felt a range of emotions from disappointment to ecstatic inspiration and joy over this year. I am thankful for all that I have learned and ways that I have discovered who I am. Yes, this is the overarching feeling that I have: thankfulness.

So, to anyone who purchased something in my shop, liked something in my shop, encouraged me to keep going, answered my annoying questions as i tried to figure it all out, read my blog, listened to my frustrations, endured my tweets.....THANK YOU!! more than you know....

In other news, we bought a 1960's Ford Ranger. Now i can make some serious thrift store hauls!

And Just for fun my top TEN favorite Sales...

My Favorite Vintage Blouse

I am a dress girl through and through. I don't list many blouses in my shop (though i'm trying to learn this art) because not many "speak" to me. But when i saw this ruffley little blouse, i knew that it was going to be very happy living in my closet. i love the color, the ruffles, the tie that can be worn in a bow at your neck and best of all...its the softest silk i've ever felt.
